White Silence

WHITE SILENCE kindleHere’s a surprise for me as well as for you. Some of you may remember the first chapters of White Silence, posted here a few months ago. The good news is that it is NOW available for pre-order.

The ebook is being published on September 21st, with the paperback following next spring. It will be available on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com and Audible, all on the same day. Let’s keep life simple.

It’s the story of a young woman, Elizabeth Cage, who is more than she seems. Elizabeth has a gift – or a curse – and after her husband’s death she suddenly finders herself isolated and vulnerable. And as if that’s not bad enough – strange things happen wherever she goes.

The book’s a little bit thriller, a little bit romance and a little bit supernatural. Well, quite a lot supernatural, actually.

Hazel is to re-post an excerpt on this page – just to whet your appetites – here’s a sneak peek of the cover.

This story is a bit of new departure for me. It’s a very different story to both the St Mary’s and the Frogmorton Farm series. I had actually forgotten how nerve-wracking it is to launch a new series on an unsuspecting readership. Some of you might like to light a candle and indulge in a few minutes’ personal meditation to prepare yourselves. Or, alternatively, just rip the wrapper off another giant bar of chocolate and grab a bottle of wine. Whatever floats your boat.

I personally am in Dr Who watching mode – behind the sofa.

  1. Exciting that you’re getting into a new venture, but I hope that’s not the end of the Chronicles of St. Mary’s!!

  2. I will order it as soon as it becomes available on Amazon USA. I love everything you write– well, everything I have read that you write.

  3. Hi Jodi

Wanted to let you have my brief reaction to White Silence.
Well, I downloaded it yesterday morning and finished the book last night. (I am on hols, But that was quite a reading jag even for me.) I was completely hooked, ignoring my significant other and the delights of Kuala Lumpur as I tapped my way through the Kindle version at supersonic speed. I was utterly absorbed by this story.

It feels like a new departure for you – dark, scary, utterly gripping. Still with all your trademark features of tight writing, great characterisation and twisting plot. I absolutely loved it. Cage is a wonderful character, and Jones a baffling yet sympathetic partner. My only criticism is the cliffhanger ending – how long will I be left in agony till we get more?

Superb stuff, Jodi! You just keep getting better and better.

    • Thank you. I’m very glad you enjoyed it. I am cracking on with the sequel – which, in the way of all sequels – isn’t anything like as easy to write as the first. Aaaaaghhh! As Max often says – time to get a nice office job. Yes, it is different. I wanted to stretch myself in a new direction. I have another idea for a series as well, so no rest for the wicked – as my publisher often says! Thank you for your kind comments. Jodi.

      • Very glad to hear that. Enjoyed White Silence as much as , but in a different way than, the St marys series. My only concern is that although I am a slow reader I read faster than you write your wonderful books.

  4. I just read White Silence in two days. As with the comment above, I could not put it down. As I often do with Ms. Taylor’s books, I laughed and cried and chortled out loud at the dialogue of so many of the characters, (when I wasn’t crying.) My gosh, I want to know these people!

I love that, though this is a new theme from your other series, I still feel the complexity of the characters, particularly the strong women who blossom under your storytelling. I love that it still feels like an intelligent historical novel, yet is light at times and crushing at other times. Saying that I realize I need a vacation from this book, it was quite a roller coaster!

Thank you so very much Ms. Taylor. I really look forward to your next book.

  5. Just finished White Silence – dear God! I loved the characters, the twists and turns, the wonderful way you write. Thank you for another intelligent, smartly written book. More, please!!!

  6. I absolutely endorse the previous comments.

I’ve just finished listening to White Silence and, while desperate to find out what happened, didn’t want it to end. Definitely a roller coaster – so many plot twists that had me convinced one minute that I knew where it was heading and the next told me that I totally didn’t. Loads of different emotions – blind terror, relief, a warm glow, sadness, smiles – it’s all in there. It actually inspired me to try and write a book myself (something that no other novel has) but I realised that you’ve already got it all covered Jodi, so I put down my pen again!

We’re a hungry lot to feed, your fans, and I do realise that it must be a pressure on you when we all ask for more, but…
ok, I’ll do it anyway – when is number 2 due pleeease?? 🙂

  7. I just finished listening to White Silence on Audible and loved it! Is there going to be more in the series? When might they be available?

  8. This was a very enjoyable book, Jodi! I am up to date on your St. Mary’s books and was excited to see this one. I love Elizabeth cage as a main character and the “colors” she sees. It’s a very cool concept on viewing people and their intentions— also a look into darkness in the world as well as light. Loved it! I hope the sequel is coming soon? Thank you for hours of entertainment and brain food;) -Rachel K from Washington state, USA

  9. I started reading ‘White Silence’ at 9:30 in the evening, and here it is 4:51 in the morning and I have to get up for work in 2 hours… And now I have to wait until October to re-enter the world of Cage & Jones. sigh.
